From The Small Screen To The Big Shelf: Chucky TV Series Gets Her Own Funko Pops
The beloved murderous doll, Chucky, is one of the biggest horror icons ever, and is gonna stay with us in the near future. The “Child’s Play” franchise was born in 1988 with the first film, followed by seven (!) more sequels. In 2021, a successful TV series was launched, essentially a sequel to the movie ” Cult of Chucky.” In three seasons so far, the legendary Brad Dourif has continued to be the voice behind the doll. Unfortunately, in September 2024, we received the news that the series had been canceled and would not continue for a fourth season, at least for now.
Although the “Chucky” TV series did not receive great reviews or unprecedented viewing numbers, it did give rise to some beautiful moments, mainly around the various transformations that the familiar character of Chucky underwent. This has an impact on the range of products and collectibles inspired by Chucky, who has already received different versions according to previous representations, such as the original version, his appearance in “Child’s Play 2” or “Child’s Play 3”, and of course also his relationship with the doll Tiffany in “Bride of Chucky,” which recently resulted in several stunning and romantic pop versions in honor of Valentine’s Day.
In this situation, the fact that the collectibles giant Funko is launching three Funko Pop versions based on the series, as part of the Pop! Television collection should not surprise you. Here is everything you need to know about the new Chucky TV Series Funko Pops and how to get them.
Which Chucky TV Series Funko Pops Are Out There?
Recently, Funko announced three new and special versions based on the “Chucky” TV series. As is the tradition of most products in the series, the figures are made of vinyl and stand 4 inches tall, a little over 10 cm. They come in Funko’s famous display box, and your choice as a collector is whether to display Chucky in the box or let him go out of it and live directly on your shelf.
The first version is “Melted Face Chucky,” a melted and distorted version of Chucky. This remarkable vinyl figure shows Chucky in his traditional Good Guys jumpsuit, smiling and holding syringes in his right hand. What’s interesting is Chucky’s face, the left part of which is melted, with a reddish tint. So are the lower parts on the left side of the body.
Old Chucky
Even if you don’t follow the TV series, you’ve probably seen pictures on social media at some point or memes with the older version of Chucky on it, saying something about getting old or whatever. The series had a plot explanation for this: In season 3 of “Chucky,” he discovered one day that his magic was aging, so he was losing his hair and starting to suffer from wrinkles. When this happened to the doll, she went to a voodoo doctor, who explained that the reason was a particular type of Christian magic resulting from Chucky’s previous involvement in exorcisms (in season 2). This move greatly angered the god Damballa – the father of the sky, the primordial creator of life, and one of the most critical figures in voodoo – who abandoned Chucky and left him to the ravages of time until death, unless Chucky managed to perform an ancient ritual of some kind.
The current version of the Chucky TV series Funko Pop shows Chucky in an older version, with thinner hair, facial scars, and wrinkles. Chucky sits in a wheelchair, but our impression is that this is a relatively young version of aging because we saw in the series that he reached a much more extreme state regarding his elderly appearance.
Phantom Chucky
The third and final version brings Chucky into the ghost world, thanks to the Phantom version. In the fourth episode of the third season, called “Dressed to Kill” – all the episodes in this season are named after well-known films, such as “Jennifer’s Body,” “Final Destination,” “Let the Right One In,” “Panic Room” and others – Jake, Lexi, and Devon plan a Halloween party, to stop Chucky. Sadly, they discover that the doll has its plans again, which are related to him killing these characters to sacrifice them to that same Damballa. Chucky arrives at the party dressed as the Phantom of the Opera, or in this case, “Chucky of the Opera.”
The Phantom Chucky Funko Pop! figure shows him in all his glory, with his fancy Phantom costume, hat on his head, and white mask, from which you can see a bit of the character’s famous red hair.
