Google Trends, the search engine’s tool for examining the search trends of a specific keyword – over time and concerning the total search volume – can teach us exactly what is hot this year. As is customary in recent years, the tech giant recently published the “Frightgeist” in honor of the latest Halloween, which presents the 25 most trending costumes this year: that is, the costumes whose change in the number of searches in September 2024 compared to the same month the previous year was the largest.

1st Place: Shrunken Head Bob From “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”
Tim Burton’s much-anticipated sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” hit the screens worldwide a few months ago. The film had awe-inspiring success, with over $435 million in revenue worldwide. If you take into account the popularity of Beetlejuice, it is easy to assume that some of the characters in the film – the new ones or the more familiar ones – will star in the trend list.
In the first place, you will find a Shrunken Head Bob costume, a character of a zombie spirit with a shrunken head (like duh) that helps Beetlejuice. Although this character received a relatively limited role in Burton’s film, it still got a huge demand among those who dress up – probably thanks to its unique appearance.
Note that there are different variations of this complex phrase people search on Google: for example, “Beetlejuice Shrunken Head,” which is the top searched “Shrunken Head” of all time, believe it or not.

2nd Place: That Weird Dancer From The Olympics
The second place comes to us from the Olympics, or rather, from the strange appearance of the Olympic Games. We mean, of course, Australian breakdancer Rachel Gunn (“Raygun”), who, instead of dancing, did a weird animal impersonation act, or whatever it was supposed to be, that earned her 0 points.
This dance has become super viral despite this, and probably because of this. Google says that in addition to the direct searches for her name (“Raygun Costumes” and the like), there was also an increase in searches related to her clothing during the competition (such as “Green and Yellow Track Suit” or “Green Track Pants). 4th place: Delores
Moving on to the fourth place, and for another representation of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” on the list: Delores (played by Monica Bellucci), that soul-sucking antagonist witch who was Beetlejuice’s ex, tried to kill him but was murdered on the spot.
According to Google, on the day of the film’s release, there was also a dramatic increase in searches for the term “Fake Staples” – the same trail of staples that graces Delores’ face – perhaps thanks to the TikTok videos that show how to create this effect with makeup and in other ways.
What Are The Other Beetlejuyce Costumes On The List?
Perhaps a little surprisingly, other characters from the film stayed behind but still made a presence. Delia Deetz, Lydia’s stepmother (played by Catherine O’Hara), came in 16th place. Lydia Deetz (played by Winona Ryder) settled for 23rd place, but you might be happy to hear that her name has the highest search volume of the Deetz family ever.
Astrid Deetz, Lydia’s growing daughter, is missing from the list, played in the film by Jenna Ortega. It may come as a surprise, but people may have just spent their entire Jenna Ortega budget on a Wednesday Adams costume for the past few years.
And what about the lovable ghost with the most, the heroine of the film? The Classic Costumes Are Still On Top
Note that this list does not necessarily mean these are the highest searches of all costumes. Classic costumes or those featuring a famous horror icon will likely be in very high places this year and in the coming years. More Halloween Costumes Trends For 2024
This year, Google presented significant trends in several additional categories, some of which we will refer to in separate reviews on the site. As mentioned, The technology giant checked what is happening in the world of children’s costumes. Along with Red from first place, the five were closed by Dr. Doom, Kidpool (that kid from the Deadpool family), the anime character Jojo, and the werewolf Wolverine.
“Deadpool” also took over the world of duo costumes when the costumes of Deadpool & Wolverine got first place (we didn’t find the romantic costumes of Deadpool and Lady Deadpool on the list, by the way). In the top five, we also found Velvet and Veneer from “Trolls Band Together,” Janet and Rita from the cartoon series for preschoolers “Bluey” (about a cute blue puppy), Jack & Coke costumes (meaning, Jack Daniels and Coca Cola), and a costume of Lightning McQueen and Sally from “Cars.”
They also checked the dog costumes on Google. While it’s highly likely that familiar horror costumes will continue to sell in large quantities—for example, a Chucky dog costume or a Freddy Krueger costume—we’ve seen some significant trends. In the first place of costumes for 2024 dogs, we found, look surprised, the version of the Deadpool family for the dog, DogPool.
