Before the rise of escape rooms worldwide started, several films were released that describe roughly the same concept, even indirectly. The first clear example is the Canadian “Cube” from 1997, which today is considered a cult film. The most familiar example to the public, still alive and breathing, is “Saw” movies. So it’s no wonder you can find many escape rooms inspired by the successful film worldwide, including the Saw Experience London, which we will refer to in the current review.
The Clear Connection Between Saw And Escape Rooms
First of all, a short trip down the time tunnel. In 2004, the first film was released in what would later be the “Saw” franchise, directed by James Vann (who became one of the most essential horror artists of our time, with films such as “The Conjuring,” “Annabelle,” “Insidious” and others). With a ridiculous budget of about 1.2 million dollars, the film was a massive success with grossings of over 103 million dollars worldwide. It got nine more sequels (so far), the last one expected to be released this September.
For those who have not lived on the horror planet for the past few decades, we’ll say “Saw” opens when two men discover that they are chained in an underground bathroom. They receive a long series of tasks, increasingly extreme: from amputating a leg to freeing itself from a chain attached to it to kill another person within a certain period. Otherwise, they will be tortured in a variety of ways.
This is more or less the idea in the franchise films, which became more branched with the presentation of Jigsaw, a mysterious and twisted serial killer who traps his victims in elaborate and deadly games, forcing them to face their sins and make gruesome choices to survive. Secondary characters, including Billy The Puppet, present some of the mission. Mainly, the films have various creative sadistic deaths.

The first one is called “Spiral,” and the second is called “Jigsaw.” These routes don’t have a direct connection to the movies (thank god, in the case of disappointing “Spiral” movie). They also offer mostly the same experience, missions, and length, mostly. The main difference is that while the “Spiral” route combines entering enclosed, small and complex spaces, so the participants will have to crawl and use physical force as times,”Jigsaw” is far more accessible and can also fit people with a wheelchair – unless it is a motorized wheelchair or buggy.
