Scream 7 News: Cast, Plot, Release Date, And More
There are movies where everything seems to go wrong on them. God forbid, we don’t mean those cursed horror movies, apparently or not, in which freak accidents or just bad luck attack the cast members. The story of “Scream 7” is slightly different. In fact, behind the scenes the film is more of a melodrama than a horror film, and the bunch of “Scream 7” news we got in the last months is a shred of significant evidence.
“Scream 7” had to deal with the departure of the two leading actresses in the latest movies in the franchise (the Carpenter sisters), which required recalculating the script. After that came the change of the director, who described “a dream that turned into a nightmare.” It would seem as if someone there decided to murder Ghostface for good, and it might be possible to make a reflexive film within the plot to find out who wants the franchise to die.
The good news? According to many (and I am among them), these changes may save the franchise, which somehow lost direction in the last two films. With the return of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) and giving the director job to Kevin Williamson, the screenwriter of a significant part of the films of the franchise, the expectations of the writer of these lines actually rose. Here’s everything we know about the movie that will resurrect Ghostface (again), possibly for the last time.
The First Scream 7 News: The Carpenters Are Leaving
If you haven’t been to the horror planet in recent years, a new synopsis of the “Scream 7” saga has become more of a telenovela than a horror movie. In “Scream 5” and “Scream 6,” we got a new storyline with the Carpenter sisters: Sam (Mexican actress Melissa Barrera, “Abigail,” “In The Heights,” “Bed Rest,” “Your Monster”) played the biological daughter of Billy Loomis, and Jenna Ortega (“Netflix’s “Wednesday,” “X,” “The Babysitter: Killer Queen”) as her annoying sister. The ending of the sixth film, in which the two survived, perhaps hinted at Sam’s transition to the dark side for the following movies.
But then came the politics into the game. Since the brutal attack of the Hamas against Israel on October 7 and the response of the Israeli Army in the following months, Barrera has published horrific posts accusing Israel of committing “genocide,” “ethnic cleansing,” “apartheid regime,“ and even “distorting the Holocaust,“ including a great deal of fake news, blood libels and anti-Semitic accusations that seem to have come out of the Hamas propaganda channels, sharing Posts that reminded us the propaganda against the Jews from the last century. Barrera was fired by the production company Spyglass Media Group, even if later we heard claims that they simply decided not to renew her contract, which is a bit different from actually firing her.
Jenna Ortega took roughly the same path on social media. Shortly after Barrera’s firing, we got the news that Ortega would not return for the sequel. We do not know Why did Jenna Ortega leave “Scream 7”, but many believe the departure is due to her busy schedule (and it is damn busy!) and not due to Jenna Ortega’s anti-Israel posts. later, there were claims that her role in the seventh film was supposed to be limited anyway, and Spyglass decided to end the relationship a few months before the formal announcement.
Sydney Prescott Is Back To Scream 7!
Neve Campbell, a.k.a Sidney Prescott, is perhaps the name most associated with “Scream.“ So when she got a relatively minor role in “Scream 5“ and was completely absent from the sixth film due to her (very justified) dispute regarding the low salary she received, or as she put it well: “an offer that did not match the value I brought to the series.”
Campbell announced in March 2024 its return to the franchise. Campbell shared a photo of the script with her name on it. “It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies,“ she wrote on Social Media. “My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen, and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!”.
Who Will Be I Scream 7?
We might have been even more excited to learn that Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), who in the opinion of the writer of these lines was treated somewhat problematically in the sixth film, will also return. Shortly after the news about Campbell, it was announced that there were also talks with Cox. “I’m not officially signed on,“ she admitted in an interview with Variety last September. “I’m not, but there will be a ‘Scream 7.“
We also heard that there are talks with Patrick Dempsey, who played Detective Kincaid in the third film will be part of the cast of “Scream 7”. However, there is still no news on the subject.
The Screenwriter Takes On The Role Of Director
If you thought the drama behind “Scream 7“ passed over the director’s chair, think again. It has long been announced that the directors of the fifth and sixth films in the franchise, Matt Bettinelli-Olfin and Tyler Gillette (“Ready or Not,” the first “V/H/S” movie), will not direct the seventh installment, but will only be executive producers.
The directing reins were given to the great Christopher Landon (two “Heapy Death Day“ films, as well as “Freak“ and “The Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse”). Still, he withdrew from the project in December 2023 for reasons that are not clear but may be related to the previous wave of departures. “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited Scream 7 weeks ago”, he wrote on Social Media. “This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on. I have nothing.”
Production continued with Kevin Williamson, the man who essentially created Ghostface by writing the screenplay for the first two films in the franchise (as well as “I Know What You Did Last Summer,“ the entertaining “The Faculty,” the disappointing “The Curse“ and the surprising Covid-19 slasher “Sick“). Williamson also produced the third film in the franchise, produced and wrote the screenplay for the fourth film, and served as executive producer for the fifth film. Williamson is one of the people most associated with Scream, even if his experience as a director behind the camera is scant and includes the ill-fated Teaching Mrs. Tingle in 1999 with Helen Mirren and Katie Holmes. It will be interesting to see if he is up to the challenge.
As with the fifth and sixth films, the script will be written by the duo James Vanderbilt (“Zodiac“ and the two beloved “Murder Mystery“ films with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston) and Guy Busick (“Ready or Not,” “Abigail”).
Scream 7 Plot: Meet The Prescotts
It’s still unclear what will happen in the “Scream 7” plot, but we got some hints. According to reports, the film will deal with the family of Sidney Prescott, who is trying to recover from the murders that happened a few decades earlier, and probably also from the return of Ghostface, whoever the hell he is will not be this time.
According to the latest rumors regarding what will “Scream 7” be about, the film will include two storylines: the first will focus on Sidney and her immediate surroundings from Woodsboro, and the second on Sidney’s new family, emphasizing one (or two) daughters. Rumors appeared on social networks that this daughter will be played by the young actress Samara Lee, who played the girl Annabelle (Bee) – yes, the one who was killed in a car accident and possessed by an evil demon – in the films “Annabelle: Creation“ and “Annabelle Comes Home“). We may receive confirmation about this casting soon.
Is There A Scream 7 Trailer?
A trailer for “Scream 7“ has not yet been published, so if you come across such a video on YouTube, know that it is entirely fake, within the annoying fashion of creating fake trailers that include fools and scenes from previous films.
Here, for example, is a trailer that looks great, and according to the creator’s reports, it required eight months of work and the use of professionals such as voice artists, except for the fact that it is entirely fake.
When Is Scream 7 Coming Out?
If you miss Ghostface and want to meet familiar characters again, you must wait a while. As Neb Campbell and Kevin Williamson recently shared on social media, the film will hit screens in the United States on February 7, 2026. They chose to announce the “Scream 7” release date with an image — which looks a bit like AI, to be honest — in which a knife marks the date on a calendar with several Blood stains.

We will bring you more “Scream 7” news soon.
