A’dam Lookout Will Get You High In Amsterdam (For Good Reasons)
There are cities where a panoramic view, preferably from as high as possible, is a must-see attraction. Until a few years ago, the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, didn’t meet this requirement. Amsterdam is a breathtaking city with many attractions, but a visit usually amounts to a stroll through the streets or, at most, a cruise on the canals. However, several observation towers have sprung up over the years in Amsterdam; one of the most famous is A’dam Lookout, which includes an exceptionally high swing, an experiential elevator, and a few other surprises.
But is the attraction suitable for horror fans, and can it be combined with a trip to other scary attractions the city offers, such as The Amsterdam Dungeon or the Bizarre Body Worlds exhibition? The answer can be positive, especially if you are one of those who enjoy very high attractions or those who play on your adrenaline.
Here’s everything you need to know about one of the most interesting tourist attractions Amsterdam offers today. This attraction can show you Amsterdam from new angles while teaching you a thing or two about the city.
What Is A’dam Lookout Amsterdam?
Adam Lookout, or Adam’s Tower, is a relatively new addition to the Amsterdam landscape. It was initially built as the headquarters of a commercial company and, over the years, has undergone extensive renovations. It reopened in 2016 as a tourist attraction, which attracts quite a few travelers to the city, most of whom (but not all) are young.
First, A’dam Lookout tower has an observation deck that lets you look 360 degrees over the city’s landscape from about 100 meters. You can see the historic center, the famous canals, the harbor, and so on, and on a clear day, the surrounding area, with a typical Dutch landscape. We recommend timing the observation for clear days, especially the evening or sunset, for apparent reasons.
What Will You Find At A’dam Lookout?
Today, panoramic views are not always enough, and places of this type offer additional attractions. In the case of Adam Lookout, these include the following attractions:
Over The Edge – A’dam Lookout Swing
Many argue that the highlight of Adam Lookout, certainly in the context of the World of Horror website that presents you with scary installations worldwide, is the swing that stands at the top. Over the Edge is the swing that was once considered the tallest in Europe, or more precisely, three double swings located right at the top of the tower that are coming out of it. While on air, there will be practically nothing below you, and your feet will dangle above the city – an excellent opportunity to check that your shoes are correctly tied to your legs.
Although it is a safe attraction, and although the swing is not too fast, people who fear heights may be afraid while climbing the same swing in Amsterdam. Others will enjoy the adrenaline experience and the views that surround the guests.
So how high is A’dam Lookout swing compared to others? On some websites, the A’dam Lookout swing appears to be the tallest swing in the world, or at least the tallest swing in Europe. This is not accurate and may have been true when it opened. Today, there are taller swings, such as a swing about 140 meters high in Bollywood Park in Dubai (of course) or a spectacular and scarier rainbow-colored swing recently opened in China. Even in Europe today, we can find the equivalent of Berlin’s swing on the roof of the Park Inn Hotel, located at a height of about 120 meters. Despite this, the reviews of Adam Lookout’s swing are excellent, especially since it offers you a large part of the charm of Amsterdam.
How To Get A’dam Lookout Swing Tickets?
Using the swing involves a separate fee, in addition to the cost of climbing the tower, as we will expand on later when we detail the tickets and how to purchase them.
Please note that the attraction is suitable for children from 1.2 meters tall and above, and on rainy or windy days, it may be closed. Therefore, we advise you to schedule your visit for the more pleasant days, when the experience will be more fantastic, and the sights you will probably get will also be more impressive.
Virtual Roller Coaster Ride – Amsterdam VR Ride
Amsterdam VR Ride is another interesting attraction that will appeal to adrenaline enthusiasts. Here, you will wear virtual reality glasses and sit in a relatively closed seat. During the short ride, you’ll travel around Amsterdam, passing many of the city’s must-see attractions, feeling like a wild train ride thanks to the special glasses, sound effects, and chair movement.
The Amsterdam VR Ride and the swing are additional costs.
Restaurants And Other Culinary Delights
Adam Lookout offers several culinary options against the backdrop of beautiful city views. On the 20th floor of the tower, you’ll find the panoramic restaurant Madame, where you can sit down for coffee, cake, sandwiches, salads, soups, and more throughout the day. There are many options for main courses, such as burgers, salmon, schnitzel, mushroom ravioli, meatballs, and more. You can find the full menu here.
On this floor, you will also enjoy a drinks bar with soft drinks, different types of beer (including a significant representation of the local Heineken beer), wine, snacks, and, starting at noon, a burger menu. On weekend evenings (Friday to Sunday), a DJ comes by and adds some music to the atmosphere.
On the 19th floor is the revolving restaurant Moon, with a menu that changes frequently. The main principle is that the meal, based on common ingredients from Dutch cuisine, includes a main course, two side dishes, and bread.
Elevator Loaded With Effects
In Amsterdam, even taking an elevator can be exciting. You can go from the ground to the 20th floor of Adam Lookout with the Spectacular Elevator, which makes this journey in just 20 seconds. To make the ascent an experiential experience, the elevator offers various light and sound effects, and the transparent ceiling of the elevator also makes the idea of using it a good one.
A’dam Lookout Photos, Audio Guides, And Other Experiences
Of course, when visiting a tower of this type with views like these, photos will be an integral part of the experience. At Adam Lookout, you can, for a separate fee, order photos of yourself standing on the Edge or videos of yourself swinging. There are binoculars in the complex with an interactive element that will provide information about the buildings and sites you see on the horizon, enhancing the viewing experience.
Admission to A’dam Lookout tower will get you an audio guide at no additional cost. The “tour” lasts about 30 minutes and involves downloading the Close to Lookout app.

Where Can You Buy Tickets For Adam’s Lookout?
Our most important advice to you is not to wait until the last minute but to book tickets in advance for attractions that interest you from the wide selection of Adam Lookout.
There are several reasons for this. Booking in advance is highly convenient and can be done with just a few clicks of a button. It saves you the need to visit the box office and the queues that may arise there.
In addition, and no less importantly, the prices here can be affordable compared to the box office while offering more flexibility. The primary ticket websites provide free changes or cancellations up to 24 hours before the planned experience date. In years of instability, this is an essential requirement.
How To Get To A’dam Lookout?
Amsterdam is a small city and very easy to navigate, and fortunately, this is especially true of A’dam Lookout. The tower is near Amsterdam Central Station, which you can easily reach on foot, by tram, metro, or bus from the city’s extensive range.
To get to the tower from Central Station, you’ll need to cross the Amstel River. That’s not a problem, as you can use the free F3 ferry – or Buiksloterweg, as it’s called – which operates 24/7. After a two-minute ferry ride, you’ll need to walk another two minutes to reach the tower.
You’ll find detailed directions on how to get to A’dam Lookout from Central Station on the attraction’s official website.
