“Scary Movie 6” News: What Do We Know About The Plot, Cast, And Release Date?

Have you missed the shallow but funny jokes that make scenes from familiar horror films of recent years? Then you’ll probably be happy that more than 25 years after the first film and 13 years after the fifth film, the horror parody “Scary Movie” will return next year – to be more precise, on January 12, 2026.

So, what do we know about “Scary Movie 6”, who will return to take part in it (for now, mainly the Wayans brothers) and can you guess which films we’ll laugh at now?

Scary Movie 6 Cast: The Wayans Brothers Are Back, Together

If you grew up on the “Scary Movie” movies, at least the first ones, the first names that may come to mind are those of actresses like Anna Faris or Regina Hall, who starred in almost all of the films in the franchise (the first four, in this case).

However, behind the successful franchise are, to a large extent, the Wayans brothers. More precisely, in the meantime, Marlon and Shawn Wayans, who starred in the first two films and were also part of the screenwriters and producers, have already announced that they will return. The one who will also take part is the older brother, Keenan Ivory Wayans, who is expected to be part of the writers but currently not to direct, unlike the first two films in the franchise.

Confused? Here is a brief explanation of the history of the very extended Wayans family in the current context. Keenan Ivory Wayans, as mentioned, directed a large part of the collaborations between the brothers: “Scary Movie” (2000), “Scary Movie 2” (2001), “White Chicks” (2004), and “Little Man” (2006) in all of which he also joined his brothers in the work of writing and producing. He has since disappeared a bit, mainly from a cinematic perspective, but in “Scary Movie 6,” we see him writing the script with his brother Marlon and Rick Alvarez, who was a producer on some of those films.

Marlon Wayans – the actor, comedian, screenwriter, and producer – we remember him as “Shorty,” or more precisely Brenda’s (Regina Hall) brother in the first two “Scary Movie” films (and, as mentioned, one of the screenwriters and part of the production team). The truth is that his career is still alive and kicking, even if it is pretty controversial. We have seen him in a reasonably limited number of serious roles, such as in Darren Aronofsky’s masterpiece “Requiem for a Dream” (albeit the scariest drama film of all time) and in a few more or less average action films (“G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” “Dungeons & Dragons,” “The Heat”).

Above all, we know Marlon Wayans best as a comedic actor in parodies, including horror films. Alongside the “Scary Movie“ films, we also saw him in the comedy “A Haunted House“ (2013) and its sequel, “A Haunted House 2“ (2014) – parodies in the Found Footage style of ghost films such as “Paranormal Activity,” “The Conjuring,” “Annabelle,“ and more. These films were reasonable but pretty poor in terms of quality – well, there’s not much to expect in this context from films that include rape by a ghost or sex in several positions with the Annabelle doll. They didn’t achieve iconic status like the “Scary Movie“ films but grossed reasonable sums of around $85 million combined. There’s nothing to write home about Marlon Wayans’ parody of the “Fifty Shades of Grey“ films, this time under the unsurprising name “Fifty Shades of Black,“ mainly because we didn’t see it and it is not a horror movie (I hope so).

Marlon Wayans responded to the announcement of the upcoming film in a viral post on X, in which he wrote: “WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”

And what about Shawn Wayans? In his case, too, we can see that he went in other directions after the success of “Scary Movie“ and “Scary Movie 2”, in which he played Ray Wilkins – one of Sydney Campbell’s (Anna Faris) classmates. Beyond the slightly less successful collaborations with the brothers, we haven’t seen him in too many significant roles on television or in film in the last dacade and so.

It’s still unknown who will direct the film, and most importantly, who will be the other cast members of “Scary Movie 6”. Will we see Anna Faris and Regina Hall again in it?

When Is Scary Movie 6 Coming Out?

The release date of “Scary Movie 6“ on screens worldwide is June 12, 2026. Of course, things can change in such a long time, but this is the expected date for now.

Paramount Pictures will distribute The film worldwide as part of a cooperation agreement with Miramax.

What Can We Expect From Scary Movie 6?

It depends on what you are looking for. The “Scary Movie” films ranged from relatively successful (especially the first two) to bad (especially “Scary Movie 4“ and “Scary Movie 5”), but were still quite a treat for many horror fans.

These movies were somewhat of a “reunion” of some of the most important horror films of those years, with some scenes that became cult classics, like the Carmen Electra parody of the opening scene of “Scream,” the disturbing scene of “Michael Jackson” parodying “The Others” and some other crazy scenes starring cats, wheelchairs or stuntmen dressed as Ghostface and saying something like “Whats Upppp.”

Although the films received mixed reviews, at best, they did pretty well at the box office and collectively grossed almost $900 million. The highest-grossing film in the franchise is still the first, which was produced on a budget of about $19 million and grossed about $278 million as of today. This amount could still rise ahead of the expected screening of “Scary Movie 6”, with marathons and screenings of the franchise films.

Not much is known yet about the plot of the film (at least to the extent that these films have a plot) and what is “Scary Movie 6” based on. Still, rumors on various sites are already talking about the icon in the making Megan, Art the Clown movies, the “Conjuring“ films, Ari Aster films (such as “Hereditary“ and “Midsommar”), and more.
