Final Destination: Bloodlines Will Soon Finally Reach Its Destination
In the early 2000s, when we realized that the fears of the Year 2000 problem and other troubles of the current millennium were far from being realized, the first “Final Destination” movie arrived in theaters. Since then, we have got four more films, some decent and some not, usually three years apart. In 2011 came the fifth film in the franchise, and since then, there has been silence. The sixth movie has been in the works for quite a few years, but like a complicated ride on a malfunctioning or crappy navigation system, we haven’t seen the final destination in sight.
The good news is that the long wait for horror fans is almost over. “Final Destination 6”, called “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” is in the advanced stages of work. It should reach screens worldwide during 2025, with some surprises ahead.
The following article will present everything about the anticipated film, probably showing us countless new accidents and dumb ways to die.
Final Destination 6: The Movie That Got It All Wrong
The truth is that the sixth film in the “Final Destination” franchise has been in the works for quite a few years, which is far from surprising given the fact that most of the films have done quite impressively at the box office.
In 2011, even before the fifth film in the franchise was released, horror legend Tony Todd (“Candyman”) gave us the first hint. Todd, who in three films of the franchise played William Bludworth (the director of a funeral home who serves as an expert on death and ways to cheat it), announced that if “Final Destination 5” were successful at the box office, they would produce two more movies. Although the film was quite successful and was the second highest-grossing franchise, grossing around $158 million worldwide, it didn’t happen. Some even begun to wonder will there be a Final Destination 6, after all.
In 2019, New Line Cinema announced they were working on a new film in the franchise. Writers Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who are, among other things, responsible for the script for several “Saw” films, “The Collector,” “Piranha 3DD,“ and others, wrote the initial screenplay, referring to it as a “re-imagining“ of the franchise.
Craig Perry, one of the franchise’s producers, said in March 2020 that it would be difficult to call the planned film a “reboot“ as it would definitely be a “Final Destination film.“ The problem is that March 2020 was also when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out worldwide. It stopped almost wholly the work on the film, which started a few months earlier.
Fast forward to October 2021, when we heard that producer and screenwriter Lori Evans Taylor (“Bed Rest“ with Melissa Barrera) will write the script. Later on, screenwriter Guy Busick – who worked with the duo Matt Bettinelli Olpin and Tyler Gillett on “Ready or Not“ (2019), “Scream 5“ (2022), “Scream 6“ (2023), and “Abigail“ (2024) – Joins Evans Taylor in making the script. Around that point, promises had already begun to be spread that the film would deviate a bit from the familiar formulas of the franchise.
From A Reality Show To Zoom: We Finally Got Directors
The procedure of choosing the director was far from routine. In September of that year, “New Line Cinema“ held Zoom conversations with potential candidates. Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein beat something like 200 other candidates and got the job.
Lipovsky and Stein participated in the strange reality show “On the Lot,“ produced by Fox and even Steven Spielberg, which was trying to find the next film director. Stein came third and Lipovsky fifth out of about 12,000 filmmakers in a series that received a lot of criticism and was not particularly successful.
According to reports, what tipped the scales of “Final Destination: Bloodlines“ in favor of the duo is that during that Zoom call with the producers, the two “directed“ an accident scene, combining pre-filmed sections and special effects. The folks of “New Line Cinema“ really liked the joke, which testified to the directors’ talent and passion for the franchise, and decided to hire their services.
The movie’s filming was supposed to take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, from the end of July to the middle of October 2023. But things changed with a production in which so much went wrong here. In July of that year, the television and radio artists’ strike broke out, partly due to the devaluation in their apparent status, changes in the industry following the streaming, and even the rise of artificial intelligence. The filming occurred a few months later, between March and May 2024.
Todd, Bassinger, And Others: The Cast Of Final Destination: Bloodlines
In September 2023, “New Line Cinema“ announced that Tony Todd would return to portray William Bludworth in the sixth film, which would also explore the character’s backstory. Along with this, we got some new names, some quite promising.
Brec Bassinger (despite the name, there is no family connection to former model and actress Kim Basinger) got the leading role. Bassinger starred in the primary role on Nickelodeon’s “Bella and the Bulldogs,“ as “Stargirl“ on The CW’s series of the same name, and also in the so-so survival thriller “47 Meters 2“ we wrote about him not long ago
Other names on the cast of “Final Destination 6” are Teo Briones (the TV series “Chucky”), Kaitlyn Santa Juana (“The Flash“ and the disappointing “The Friendship Game“ with Peyton List), Richard Harmon (“I Still See You,” “Grave Encounters 2”), and others.
Final Destination 6 Plot
At the center of the plot will be Stephanie (Bassinger), an 18-year-old girl about to leave her home for college. Stephanie is attacked by terrible nightmares, in the center of which she dies in a falling accident (as can be deduced from the official poster of the film). She discovers that her nightmares used to appear in her grandmother, who managed to avoid death a few decades ago – until she passed away recently at an old age.
Stephanie learns, as befits a Final Destination movie, that death stalked the survivors of that averted disaster until it defeated them, but now haunts their children as well. Stephanie, her family members, her friends, and probably some stupid and good-looking young people who are there to be stupid and add to the body count have to find out what to do to stop the chain of death before it’s too late. At first glance, this plot combines the Final Destination movies with “A Nightmare on Elm Street,“ and it can be cool.
Is There A Final Destination: Bloodlines Trailer?
If you quickly search on YouTube, you can see quite a few versions of “trailers“ and “teaser trailers“ for the film. As far as we know, these are fake versions made by fans or just bored people, often including clips from other movies.
We estimate the “real“ trailer for “Final Destination: Bloodlines“ will arrive soon.
Final Destination 6 Release Date
So when does “Final Destination 6“ come out? Warner Bros., the distribution company, announced the film will hit the screens in 2025, but we still don’t know an exact release date and where to watch “Final Destination 6”.
Despite all the delays along the way, the date chosen will be symbolic because 2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of the first “Final Destination“ film. The sixth film will hit theaters, including I-Max – which is always attractive for horror films. “2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the first installment in the franchise”, wrote Perry on social media. “To honor the occasion with another worldwide theatrical release (in IMAX, no less) is a rare and wonderful thing. I’m wholly grateful for the opportunity and humbly appreciate the sublimely talented team that has worked so hard to bring this to life. See you next year!”.
